Amsterdam Traveling Guide

If you’re going to Amsterdam, this guide will help you see some of the sites that are lesser known to most tourists but promise to provide an incredible experience. We will also include some of the more known “touristy” things to do that we thought were well worth while. We hope you enjoy this article and it helps you navigate the beautiful places Amsterdam has to offer.

First off, this city has many beautiful botanical gardens that many visitors are unaware of. We checked all of them out and we thought every single one of them was well worth visiting because of the different types of beautiful flowers and plants they each had to offer. Some of the gardens can actually be seen from some of the canal tours, but we’ll get to that a little later. Regardless of where you are in Amsterdam, there will most likely be a botanical garden within walking distance of your hotel and we highly recommend you take some time to check them out.

The Red Light District is one of the most infamous places in the city and most people have heard about it because of the erotic women standing in the windows that are selling their bodies. The energy, mystique, and great bars make this place incredibly fun to hang out and explore. Be careful when you’re patrolling the District because it’s a big tourist spot and many locals will try to pick-pocket you, especially at night time.

The canal tours are one of the best ways to see the entire city while relaxing and enjoying the waterways. There are tons of options for the canal tours and they seem to be all priced about the same so you can take your pick on which one you want to do. It is worthwhile to ask for opinions and try to get the best and most entertaining captain as possible while on your tour.

The last thing we’ll discuss in this article is the Van Van Gogh Museum. This was one of my favorite experiences during our stay here because of the story behind this incredible artist. He had many beautiful pieces of art and as many of you may know, his work was never discovered or appreciated until after he passed away. If you want to have an amazingly unique experience at this museum, I recommend stopping by one of the truffle shops and buying the mildest form of truffle they have available and consuming it about 30 minutes prior before walking into the museum. This is guaranteed to take your experience to an entirely new level.

Backpacking through a country can be fun and really a learning experience. However, it can also be hard, if this is the first time that you are doing something like this. With the right tips and knowledge this can be an experience that you will never forget. With these essential backpacker’s tips, you will know for sure that you are ready for your experience.

Doing enough research about the country beforehand

You just don’t decide on a backpacker’s trip and start the trip a day or two later. You need to make sure that you are doing as much research as possible about the environment, safety and the culture of the country that you are going to backpacking through.

The more research you are going to do, the better prepared you will be. You will know how much money to take with you and what type of clothing you should be packing as well.

You can travel alone without any problems

Depending on the country, that you are going to backpacking through, it is okay to travel alone. There are many people that are doing this, and able to have a trip that is enjoyable and safe.

You should just make sure that you are ready and able to travel alone. If you don’t like doing things on your own, then this might not be a good idea to consider backpacking alone in a foreign country.

Making sure that you have an emergency fund

You can’t start your trip if you don’t have an emergency fund ready. You don’t know what can happen during the trip and you need to make sure that you have the money at hand for it.

Emergencies do happen, and then you need to make sure that you are able to pay for the emergency without asking family and friends for assistance.

Make your phone travel ready

The one thing that many people forget to do. Before you are visiting another country, you need to make sure that your phone is travel ready. You need to see your provider and make sure that you will be able to receive and make calls during your trip.

Otherwise, you and your family will not be able to communicate and if you encounter problems on the trip, you will not be able to phone your family for assistance.

Backpacking can be a great experience for anyone. The only thing that you need to know is that you should make sure that you know and remember all these essential tips before you are going on your trip. This is the only way that you can make sure that you are going to have the experience of a lifetime and that you are going to get back home safely.
