Welcome Message

Dear Friends,

A recent Wall Street Journal “Zogby Battleground Poll” showed our campaign for U.S. Senate leading the incumbent Republican, Sen. Mike DeWine, by almost 10 points.

It wasn’t long before Senator DeWine was on the attack, writing supporters accusing me of, “being mad at the world – and hating President Bush.”

His attack is part of a pattern coming out of Ohio and Washington, DC these days. Whenever anyone stands up against the Republican led culture of corruption and deception they become a target for right-wing attacks.

When Congressman Jack Murtha stood up and said enough is enough, its time to bring our troops home from Iraq, Rep. Jean Schmidt called him a coward on the House floor as the right-wing applauded. This is a man who served 37 years in the Marine Corps receiving 2 purple hearts and a bronze star for valor on the battlefield.

Jack Murtha didn’t back down and I won’t either.

I opposed the war in Iraq from the beginning, but as a Marine I had a sense of responsibility and commitment to my brothers and sisters in the Corps who were over there fighting and dying so I volunteered to serve. I know first hand the problems we face there and the reason we need to bring our troops home as soon and as safely as possible.

Regardless of how they come after me or how they try to frighten you, I will continue speaking out because it is the right thing to do.

Sen. DeWine’s attacks are just the beginning of what will likely be a well financed and bitter campaign to silence us.

That is why I need your support.

There is too much at stake in this election not to fight. Ohio’s working families deserve nothing less.

We need immediate change and we aren’t going to get it from the Republicans and special interests that control Washington. They must be confronted with our positive message of change.

If elected, I will be the only veteran of the Iraq war seated in the Senate bringing with me a voice that’s as unique as it is unwavering. We can finally have the debate that has been missing in Washington for far too long.

While the Republicans in Washington have been working hard on behalf of the special interests, spending more time talking about Terri Schiavo, right-wing Supreme Court appointments and tax cuts for billionaires, we can force them to talk about what really matters to the people of Ohio and our nation as a whole.

Fiscal responsibility. Quality, affordable healthcare. Fair trade that keeps our jobs from being sent overseas. Secure pensions and Social Security. Limited government intervention into our personal lives. A strong national defense coupled with a forward looking foreign policy.

These are the issues the Senate should be tackling. These are the issues I’ll fight for as a United States Senator from Ohio.

I hope you will join my campaign for real change. Use the following link to sign up today:

Together we can defeat the Republican attack machine and elect a Democratic Senate Majority in 2006.

Sincerely,
